Needed: Spirituality and Christian Ministry Professor
The McAfee School of Theology of Mercer University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment in Spirituality and Christian Ministry beginning in August of 2022.
McAfee offers courses in fully residential, hybrid, and fully online formats in its degree programs that include MDiv, MA, MTS and DMIN. The successful applicant will develop and/or teach up to six courses per year in spirituality, spiritual formation, and Christian ministry including on both the masters and doctoral levels and in traditional, virtual and hybrid formats. The successful candidate will also participate fully in the life of the McAfee community, organize chapel, direct the annual student spirituality retreat, advise students, supervise masters and DMin theses, serve on McAfee and University committees as assigned by the Dean, participate in professional organizations and demonstrate active involvement in the local church.
A successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in Spirituality or a related field (practical theology, cultural studies, etc.) from an accredited college/university by the start of the appointment. The applicant will be familiar with and able to teach Spirituality from some foundational dimension of the discipline (i.e. historical expertise in spiritual or mystical sources, transpersonal psychology, etc.) and be able to integrate this knowledge with contemporary research and other applied or practical disciplines. Rank will be determined based on the credentials of the final candidate and the candidate’s potential to direct McAfee’s Doctor of Ministry program.
Desirable qualities in a candidate include:
1. A strong commitment to the church and to bridging the gap between the academy and the church.
2. A keen attentiveness to issues pertaining to gender, race and cultural diversity.
3. A robust research and publication agenda.
4. Online teaching experience.
Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Pay Rate is commensurate with experience.
