Dr. David Gushee to speak at Baptist Peace Fellowship Peace Breakfast
June 7, 2012 – Fort Worth, Texas – Dr. David Gushee, distinguished professor of Christian ethics and director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University, will be the speaker at the Peace Breakfast on June 22 at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s General Assembly. The title of his speech is “The Path of Moral Leadership” which grew out of his “20 years of attempting to be a faithful Baptist Christian-churchman-scholar-activist-ethicist in culture wars America,” which have left him “spiritually tired.”
Gushee says, “I want to speak to you on the theme “the path of moral leadership.” I aim for my remarks to be deeply personal and entirely transparent, connected to my own journey and yet shaped by scripture, history, and the problems of our contemporary moment. Above all, I hope that my reflections bear witness to Jesus Christ and provoke each of us to a greater commitment to living out his way in the world—and in the church.
“Our Peace Breakfasts are a time for Baptist peacemakers to gather for sharing and finding sustenance for their journeys,” said Evelyn Hanneman, BPFNA Operations Coordinator. “David Gushee is bringing a word of hope and challenge that we need to hear in what has become a conflicted world.”
