Stop AAPI Hate: Statement & Actions • BPFNA Comunicado sobre los delitos de odio en Asia
BPFNA-Bautistas por la Paz stands with the Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in lamenting the deaths of the eight people killed in Atlanta and joins with others in demanding an end to AAPI hate, violence and discrimination. We condemn the increasing xenophobic and hateful attitudes and actions directed toward AAPI communities, families and businesses – especially throughout recent years where we’ve seen targeted rhetoric around the “rising threat” of China and fear mongering around COVID-19. We also acknowledge that this racism is not something new. As a nation founded on white supremacy and patriarchy – ideologies that are deeply embedded in our systems and everyday way of life – we also cannot ignore the history of racism in the United States against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and, as six of the victims were women of Asian descent, the history of misogyny against Asian women in particular.
BPFNA-Bautistas por la Paz calls our network of peacemakers and partners to unite in prayer and take action.
We can support the Asian American community in several ways:
Become trained in Bystander intervention.
Educate Ourselves. Download this toolkit created by a collaboration of grassroots AAPI groups to learn more about the history of Asian discrimination and the interconnectedness of issues and constituencies within the structures of white supremacy. The toolkit includes history, workshop/training modules and personal experiences/lessons learned from those in the AAPI community on working to dismantle white supremacy.
Take Action for Asian Women! The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum put together these actions you can take to advocate for and support Asian women.
Support the immediate needs of AAPI groups. Check out this list for places you can donate to support Asian communities.
You can also support this Go Fund Me for the AAPI Community Fund, which collects donations to distribute to grassroots organizations fighting for equality for AAPI peoples.
Sign this petition to tell social media and other platforms to stop the spread of disinformation and anti-Asian violence.
