We received a short update from Lina, our Youth and Young Adult Board Member in Cali, Colombia:

Not much has changed. Everything is pretty much staying the same but police brutality has increased in some cities, and we think that it will spread to other cities. The situation in Cali grows more complex and severe. We see the military vehicles on the street, jeeps with weapons that are supposed to be for wartime use. But we are seeing them on the streets now. The President is still calling for the use of the force to get the people out of the streets.

Some people say that if this continues, the Blue Hats from the UN could come to the country, but they also bring violence. There are many people from Venezuela, and they’re saying this is similar to what happened in Venezuela. We are afraid of what will happen next.

There will be another massive demonstration today in Cali. We hope it’s peaceful. We hope there are no more deaths. Cali has been invaded by the police and military. There are more than 2000 troops in the city. But people are not afraid, they’re even more encouraged to stand their ground and make the government give in.

Please pray for peace. Pray for no more deaths. Pray for justice for the people of Colombia.
